5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
The ancestry of iconic, cattle-herding cowboys starts centuries before the American West—all the way back to the 8th century, when North Africans conquered Spain! “Cowboy Mike” Grauer will share cowboy truths and tall tales, different types of cowboys, and the diverse demographics of a cowboy crew. Our shared history is far more layered than what has been depicted in movies, television, and Western fiction.
Michael Grauer is the new McCasland Chair of Cowboy Culture and Curator of Western Art at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. He oversees diverse collections of art, weapons, militaria, sports, and cowboy and ranching collections.
